Greater than the sum of its parts, Tortuga Studios is a hybrid beast.
One of Sydney’s largest and longest-running artist-run spaces, it is as eclectic as it is acclaimed. A stalwart of Sydney’s creative arts and cultural production sector, its primary role is the safeguarding of affordable, for-purpose space for creative practitioners of all stripes.
Located in an old brick factory in St Peters, Tortuga is a film and TV production hub, home to artist studios, fabrication workshops, photographic studios, broad-form creative co-working spaces and a gallery that hosts large-scale exhibitions and live music. With up to 45 artists in residence at any given time, the space houses 80 arts workers when in full production – with a local, national and international scope – and supports over 100 affiliated artists beyond this.
