Painting Grounds 2012

Opening Night:
Friday the 14th February
5pm – 9pm

Last years’ Painting Grounds exhibition was pretty epic! This year we decided to amp it up with more live art, a bigger mob of artists, the irrepressible Charlie McMahon launching his new EP, Didj Heart, plus Deadbeat & Hazy.

Painting Grounds is a yearly exhibition exhibiting art by street artists and contemporary artists around Sydney. Collaboration and artists’ individual works show a range of styles and the influence of Sydney’s local culture and community. The ephemeral nature of street art and communicating the message loud and proud are common themes, displayed as surreal and symbolic images.Charlie McMahon has also shared this local Sydney culture: this and the amazing journeys he has embarked upon spill out into his music. Charlie is one of the first non-Aboriginal professional didgeridoo players and Gondwana’s music is enjoyed throughout the world. As well as a massive contribution to the Australian interior, he has played to audiences in Russia, Japan, Europe, United States.
Didj Heart is the latest release from Gondwana and should be recognised as a unique and precious contribution to music worldwide.Deadbeat and Hazy emerged from the cesspool of beat and rhyme with a unique breed of hiphop growing in their belly and mind. Their tales told in the lowest frequencies. Find them on the digital realm at:’s a night not to be missed! This years exhibition will feature the artwork of-
